The maps in this collection refer to a larger plat map of Niles township, which is divided into 36 sections. Each section represents 640 acres or 1 square mile each. How to read a plat map: The numbered sections on a plat map are consecutive across each row, following a pattern of right to left and then left to right. On the 36 section map of Niles township, the sections in the top row are numbered 1 through 6, from the right hand side to the left hand side. The next row of sections numbered 7 through 12 move across the row from the left hand side to the right hand side. This right to left, then left to right numbering continues along the entire 36 section grid, like a snake coilin
