Lake County Discovery Musem

Welcome!
The Lake County Discovery Museum collects, preserves, interprets, and presents the history and culture of Lake County. The Lake County History Archives provides access to more than 15,000 documents, photographs, and maps highlighting the history of Lake County. Access to millions of postcards is available through the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, the world's largest public collection of postcards and related materials including photographs, client letters, and other items used to create Curt Teich postcards.

The Museum's digital projects provide online access to many of these special collections. Materials online from the Lake County History Archives include handwritten accounts of one-room schoolhouses in Lake County from 1918, postcards and photographs showing life at the Fort Sheridan Army base, and postcards of early twentieth century life in Lake County. Postcards from the Curt Teich Postcard Archives include images from towns and cities in the United States and Canada printed by the Curt Teich Company, V.O. Hammon, and the Detroit Publishing Company.
